This is great piece of folk art by Melvin Hall from

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.  Circa 1960. 

See page 62 of “Ontario Decoys” by Bernie Gates.

    Melvin Hall used a rig of black ducks carved by

George Weir for hunting.   As he lost a decoy, he would

replace the lost one with a decoy of his own.

This was done with a rasp finish. It is very unusual in form

and a great  black duck.
